A simple blood test can determine if someone has sickle cell disease or sickle cell trait. Most states routinely test babies for sickle cell disease. But all newborns should get tested.

Other people who should get tested include: Adults planning to have a child and people having health problems usually caused by Sickle Cell disease.

Check with your doctor or local health department and ask for the electrophoresis test for an accurate result and answer.
